Support the Friends of Fred Heutte Foundation: Cultivating Beauty and Community in Norfolk

Nestled in the heart of historic Ghent, Norfolk, the Fred Heutte Foundation preserves and celebrates the legacy of Fred Heutte, a visionary horticulturist, educator, and founding director of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Our public garden serves as a lush sanctuary in a bustling urban neighborhood, offering a place for reflection, inspiration, and community connection and providing hands on learning for people interested in gardening, sustainability and the creation of public green spaces.

Through diverse programming, the Garden educates visitors of all ages on sustainable gardening, conservation, and native plants. It features a stunning array of native pollinator gardens, an arboretum, a formal garden, and even a versatile event space, making it a beloved resource for the community.

However, the Center relies on fundraising to maintain and expand its programs, enrich its gardens, and enhance its educational offerings. By supporting the Fred Heutte Center, donors contribute to a vital community asset that fosters environmental stewardship and a love for nature, ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from and enjoy this special place. Every gift helps to sustain its mission and grow its impact within Norfolk and beyond.

Join us in cultivating beauty and fostering a deeper connection to nature. Together, we can honor Fred Heutte's legacy and enrich the lives of our community. Donate today and be a part of this enduring vision.

The Fred Heutte Garden is a 501c3 nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible. Memberships are primarily tax deductible with subtractions deducted due to gift rewards at certain levels, if redeemed. You will receive an itemized receipt for tax purposes from the Foundation.

Donate and Support

At Fred Heutte Garden, we welcome and value all forms of support, whether through membership or direct contributions. For those who prefer flexibility, making a donation rather than becoming a member is a wonderful way to help sustain our programs, gardens, and community outreach. Donations go directly toward keeping our grounds beautiful, funding educational opportunities for children and adults, and maintaining free and low-cost events that make the garden a true community resource. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all donations are fully tax-deductible, and every gift—no matter the size—makes an immediate impact in honoring Fred Heutte’s legacy of horticultural education and urban beautification, while ensuring the garden remains open and welcoming to everyone.

When he died in his eightieth year, Fred Heutte left a great legacy to the people of Tidewater: a vast collection of ideas that could only be realized through educational services such as lectures, workshops and demonstrations. He left a vision of a center that would house horticultural artifacts and knowledge, past, present and future.

The Fred Heutte Garden is a living memorial to a man whose visions of beauty knew no bounds.
