Introducing Blueberry Lab

The Blueberry Lab at the Fred Heutte Garden is an innovative project designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to become environmental stewards and leaders in their communities. This hands-on program combines essential practical gardening skills with fundraising and administrative training, giving participants a comprehensive learning experience that extends beyond traditional horticulture.

In the garden, students learn about plant care, soil health, composting, and sustainable garden design, working closely with plants, including blueberries, that are integral to the lab's theme. Alongside their work in the garden, they receive training in project planning, managing resources, and coordinating community initiatives. Through fundraising projects, participants learn valuable skills in budgeting, marketing, and community engagement, vital for sustaining environmental programs.

The Blueberry Lab not only empowers young people with the tools to start and manage their own environmental projects but also encourages a sense of responsibility and connection to nature that they can carry with them wherever they go.
